Week 11 Blog 2B: Revolutions on YouTube

November 1-6

Greetings class!  Welcome to the second quarter.  For this week's blog you'll have to find a YouTube video that deals with one of the many revolutions that is going on as we speak around the world, or a revolution from the past.  You could turn to Egypt, Libya, or your own backyard for the Occupy Wall Street movement in NY, Washington, DC or another American city (I highly recommend this last option).  If you turn to a revolution from the past, you could explore the Russian Revolution, the Hungarian Revolution (my choice), the French Revolution, or even the American Revolution.  There have been countless revolutions in the past, and there are many going on right now under our noses.  Just do a little research and before you know it, you'll find a revolution that you're interested in exploring.

Why are we doing this?  Well, the novel that we're about to read deals with a revolution (The Russian Revolution to be exact), and it explores what happens once a dictator has been ousted from power.  Unfortunately, dictators tend to spring up and replace the dictators knocked out of power.

Here's your assignment for this week's blog:

1. Locate a video on YouTube dealing with a revolution from the past or present.   Paste the link to your video in the comment section below.

2.  Write a short analysis (50-100 words) on what you learned about the revolution from the video.

It's really important that you do this because next week you'll have an assignment using VoiceThread, a website for having an online discussion using multimedia. For those who are interested, you can already check out this activity by visiting the following link and registering for VoiceThread: http://voicethread.com/share/2383631/.  When you create a name, make sure you use your first and last name followed by your class period.

Here's my example:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVdQ9PK9Q5o.  This is a video about the failed Hungarian Revolution of 1956,

2. I'm interested in the Hungarian revolution because I lived in Hungary for many years and my wife is Hungarian.  In 1956 the Hungarian people tried to revolt against the Russian communist regime that controlled the country after World War II.  They banded together to force the Soviet forces to leave Budapest.  Students and workers demanded free speech, the withdrawal of Soviet troops, and freedom of speech.  People from all walks of life including children worked together to use force to force the Russians to leave.  They successfully ousted the Russians from the city, but after a few days they returned with backup and powerful tanks.  The revolution was squashed, and thousands upon thousands of Hungarian revolutionary fighters (called "Freedom Fighters") were executed and imprisoned.  This went down in history as a failed revolution.  Hungarians would not be free until the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, which signified the end of the Soviet Union and Russian dominance in Eastern Europe.

Good Luck!  Due by Sunday, November 6 at midnight.

2.I am conecerned about this because this is something that is happening in our own "backyard".This would also have a major impact on me depending on how controlled this is.What I mean by this is, how the police will deal with this and whether or not it will become violent or not.Since this movement is already making its way into D.C that means it could soon make its way into my area.We never know how far this could go.Also I am concerned because my father works in Washington D.C and this could potentially put his health and safety in jeapordy. So we will see how this plays out.

My video is sort of a parody on Egypt's facebook revolution. Egyptians were writing posts on facebook and forming different revolt groups in order to overthrow their "president" Mubarak. As you can see from the end of the video the president had force used on the citizens, Egyptians were being beaten up by thugs, political writers were being imprisoned and innocent people were being robbed for their money just for speaking up. From watching this video, I learned that technology is not only for social/entertainment purposes, it can save some peoples lives.

My video collects colorful and picturesque feelings on the American revolution.

I learned that the American Revolution was a true underdog story. These men had nothing, they put blankets on their feet as shoes in the middle of winter and still opened a can of american butt-kicking. The British were fighting for a monarch that they may or may not have liked but America was fighting for their lives, this will to carry on, manifested a drive to not only survive but to succede!

    2. In the American Revolution our soldiers were very brave, they also didn't even have anything they had to wear blankets for shoes during the war, they were very determined to win and I don't think the British were expecting that. I learned from this that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and try your hardest.

This video is about occupy wall street people getting arrested.

The situation going on in this video is very serious. I want you all to view this video because these are nonviolent citizens being arrested. They have used no phsical force and are being arrested because they want change. These people are banding together revolting all across the country and the cops are going to arrest them. As you can see, if you saw the video that is a huge crowd and obviously the cops can't take all of them in. So I so if you can't beat them, join them, or stand to the side because if you get in the way eventually you will get ran over.

This video is about the Occupy Wall Street Movement

    2. In this Occupy Wall Street video, I it shows innocent people being mercilessly thrown to the ground by officers when they haven't touched them in any kind of way. Even when the man the ground was unable to breath, the officers still showed no restraint. The protestors were only standing for what they believe in but the police didn't care and were still very aggressive with the protestors. This goes to show that even sometimes when you're doing something with good intentions, others may not take that into consideration.

    2. I learned from the video that no we can never find peace on earth unless we find it within ourselves first. This video speaks on the 2012 idea of the world ending but it sends out a message that if all the people of the world can learn to love one another and the earth that they live on this "apocalypse" can be avoided. The revolution here would be encouraging people to love and respect one another and the earth. I agree with this video and I'm behind this revolution all the way. The signs of an "apocalypse" are all around us. Since the year 1979 the Arctic has nearly disappeared, the poles are beginning to shift faster, magnetic north is on the move 40 miles a year. I stress people to watch this video because no one can change this world but the people who live on it.

2.) This video of the Egyptian Revolution was very up close and personal. It not only showed the raw images of the revolution but it also showed how the people of Egypt would stop at nothing to gain back their freedom. They were so tired of being silenced that they decided enough is enough. I learned that people wanted Mubarak (the president of Egypt) out and for the government to stop interfering with their rights. For example one of the men in the video stated that he didn't want to get beaten up by the government when he went to go vote.

My video is about the pop art revolution that took place in the 60s and 70s. This is important to me because the leader of the pop art revolution, the man who started it all, Andy Warhol, who is being interviewed in the video is my idol. Rumors have been said that he had a mental illness and that what could have led to his creative abilities. From the video I learned that he believed that pop art would be forever... and he was right. His work is shown in many ways and are legends to this day. Alot of people are inspired by his work. One of them being one of the top selling artists, Lady Gaga. Andy Warhol started the revolution, and his work lives on. That's why it's so important.

2)This YouTube video is about the Tunisian Revolution. I had never heard of it and I saw this video on it. The video made me really interested because it was showing me how these people are being mistreated. If you ask me the people aren't really asking for much, they just want certain freedoms back. There is a high unemployment rate, food prices are going up, and etc. I think what they are asking for is pretty simple. And that is why this was important to me.

    2. This youtube video is about Hugo Chavez Frias, the Venezuela socialist president who people here say he wants to destroy freedom and democracy throughout latin america. I learned how people here can be affected by a president from another country and how Hugo Chavez wants to change the country to his own fitting while everyone else suffers, even though he had good intentions at first, kind of like how napoleon was.

    2) This video is about the occupy wall street protest, my video shows peaceful protesters being aggressively handled and arrested. One guy was even denied his inhaler, hand cuffs were tight enough to change the color of the people hands. i learned just how unprofessional police can be. Non- violent protesters do nothing to harm anyone but they are being treated like criminals.

    2. From this YouTube video I learned about the French revolution. I learned that the French revolution started because France had become poor and they had no jobs, money, and food. The only people who had money was King Louis the sixteenth and his wife. The others did not like this so they put the king and his wife on house arrest and started making decisions. The king and his wife fled and when they found them they were both killed.

2.) From this youtube video I learned about the Mexican Revolution. Mexicans were discontent with the government of Porfirio Díaz. During his time in office all key principles were being ignored. in 1910 Diaz reelected himself president for the 6th consecutive time, which is about 30 years of power. The revolution began on November 22, 1910.

    Video about the Libyan Revolution:
    (Caution: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC VIDEO)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLaRPsRdISI

    (Less Graphic)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUXEpKQh67w&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL2129DCFD9A4609E8

Well, from the first video, I learned about how real the Libyan revolution is. It showed me how oppressed these people were and how much they were going through. At first, I thought the Libyan revolution was important but I never really cared about it. Seeing such a graphic video opened my eyes to such a dire situation and it actually makes me want to act on it.
The second, less graphic video provided me with information on the revolution. I understood how oppressive Gaddafi was and that he wanted to "purify" the land. He was a disgusting man. After watching those videos, the mere thought of his existence sickens me. To put it bluntly, I'm glad he's dead.

Im Interested In The Syrian Uprising Rebellion. I Am Interested In It Becuase Its Alot Of Conflict On Very Serious Situations And Showed Me How Serious These People Were About Changing What They Believe In.Since March there has been a lot of pressure to try to divide Syrians through fear, intimidation, lies, even horrific acts of violence. But the revolution is for the rights of all Syrians, not for one group against another. Like This is Aishah Mahmoud from Khattab near Hama, she had a kidney failure and her parents ran to the hospital to try to save her life but the soldiers at the checkpoint kept the family waiting untill the little girl died in the arms of her mother. I Think What The People Are Standing Up For Is VERY Serious And For A Good Cause. The Video Gave Me A Chance To See What Type Of Stuff Is REALLY Going On And To Help Me Be More Aware Of The Situation.

In this video I learned about what had happened during the russian revolution. I learn that it started because of food shortages and they wanted their leader Tsar Nicholas II gone. Then it started out as a big chaos and the people from russia was mad about the war. I learned that russia had went through alot thats why it caused this revolution.

2.I learned that blacks and whites were the two main divided groupes/races.Also,whites were owners of plantations and food, while the other were considered as the poor. This revolutionwas influenced by the French Revolution.Another thing I learned was that the Declaration of Independence stated that all men were created equal and this also influenced this revolution because everyone wasnt treated equally at the time.People are still being treated bad today. The main reason of this revolution is because people arnt treated equally. My opinion on this is that I would have revolted to because I would have wanted to be treated how everyone else is treated.

    2. I learned that the French Revolution started because of the peasants displeasure with the way the government and the king worked. The king was seen as ineffective and indecisive. There were also two events leading up the revolution. The first was the storming of the Bastille on July 14th 1789. The second was the Tennis Court Oath.

2.I learned that the protest on wall street was started because of money issues. The wealthy were taking away from the poor and leaving them with nothing. The banks say they to big to fail, but the people say they are just the right size. Their were only thousands of people protesting representing the millions that have suffered. Thia situation was referred to a economic tsunami.
