Week 11 Blog 3B: Revolutions on YouTube

November 1-6

Greetings class!  Welcome to the second quarter.  For this week's blog you'll have to find a YouTube video that deals with one of the many revolutions that is going on as we speak around the world, or a revolution from the past.  You could turn to Egypt, Libya, or your own backyard for the Occupy Wall Street movement in NY, Washington, DC or another American city (I highly recommend this last option).  If you turn to a revolution from the past, you could explore the Russian Revolution, the Hungarian Revolution (my choice), the French Revolution, or even the American Revolution.  There have been countless revolutions in the past, and there are many going on right now under our noses.  Just do a little research and before you know it, you'll find a revolution that you're interested in exploring.

Why are we doing this?  Well, the novel that we're about to read deals with a revolution (The Russian Revolution to be exact), and it explores what happens once a dictator has been ousted from power.  Unfortunately, dictators tend to spring up and replace the dictators knocked out of power.

Here's your assignment for this week's blog:

1. Locate a video on YouTube dealing with a revolution from the past or present.   Paste the link to your video in the comment section below.

2.  Write a short analysis (50-100 words) on what you learned about the revolution from the video.

It's really important that you do this because next week you'll have an assignment using VoiceThread, a website for having an online discussion using multimedia.  For those who are interested, you can already check out this activity by visiting the following link and registering for VoiceThread: http://voicethread.com/share/2383631/.  When you create a name, make sure you use your first and last name followed by your class period.

Here's my example:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVdQ9PK9Q5o.  This is a video about the failed Hungarian Revolution of 1956,

2. I'm interested in the Hungarian revolution because I lived in Hungary for many years and my wife is Hungarian.  In 1956 the Hungarian people tried to revolt against the Russian communist regime that controlled the country after World War II.  They banded together to force the Soviet forces to leave Budapest.  Students and workers demanded free speech, the withdrawal of Soviet troops, and freedom of speech.  People from all walks of life including children worked together to use force to force the Russians to leave.  They successfully ousted the Russians from the city, but after a few days they returned with backup and powerful tanks.  The revolution was squashed, and thousands upon thousands of Hungarian revolutionary fighters (called "Freedom Fighters") were executed and imprisoned.  This went down in history as a failed revolution.  Hungarians would not be free until the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, which signified the end of the Soviet Union and Russian dominance in Eastern Europe.

Good Luck!  Due by Sunday, November 6 at midnight.

  3. Ricki Baxter 3B http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1f95KSVW8M..I Learned that the american revolution in 1776 military wanted several blacks that fought well and distinguished themselves. Even the women served and fought in the Army, Thousands of women served as cooks and nurses in the Washington's army. At the final war in Yorktown that proved King George III almost losed the throne on losing the war but then decided to continue the war.Americans would soon repent on choosing a dictator in Washington as their leader.

    1. http://youtu.be/esIywp_klXc. This is a video about the NBA Lockout of 2011.

    2. I’m interested in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Lockout because I’m a basketball fan. The NBA lockout is about who will get the revenue between the players and the owners in NBA. Under the current system, players get 57 percent of basketball related income. The owners feel that 57 percent of the revenue is too high for the basketball players. Players have looked at shaving the percent down, but not by that much. The team owners haven’t budged on the following issues: a hard salary cap, reduced contract length, and reduce the amount that contracts can be guaranteed. The NBA announced that the players will be locked out and they will lose their health benefits and will have to use COBRA. They hope they will not lose 50 games as they did back in 1998. The biggest problem with this controversy is money. The NBA Lockout still exist today and shows no signs of getting better.

2.I chose the Egyptian revolution because it was very interesting. It happened on January 25,2011 and is still continuing as of November 2011.Millions of protesters demand the overthrow of the Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. The revolution was not without violence. At least 846 killed and 6,000 injured.on the 11 of February following weeks of determined popular protest and pressure,Mubarak resigned from office.

    2. I chose the English Civil War(Revolution) because i found it quite interesting. In the 1600's England was ruled by Protestant King James I and he believed he had God's powers on Earth. Protestants persecuted Catholics which caused England to divide. James I abuses his powers and neglects his people. When James I died he son became to take over, Charles I. He did some of the same things his father did which was abuse their powers. Parliament was the only one who could stand up to Charles I and they did. They created a bill name Petition Of Rights and that limits Charles I powers. He did not like that at all and declared war against Parliament. Charles I Army was winning until the Parliament asked for Scotland's Oliver Cromwell for help and they eventually beat Charles I. Charles was put on trial and was guilty of abusing power and he was beheaded. Now Cromwell becomes Lord Protector Of England! Also Cromwell started to abuse his powers also! He lead brutal attacks on Ireland. The Restoration stated when Cromwell dies the monarchy would ruled England again. But King James II starts abusing his power!

2)I chose the NBA lockout revolution because i think it would keep me interested in doing my classwork/homework because i love watching basketball and i also play basketball so i agree with the fans that their should be an NBA league this year.I dont think its fair to the players because now they have too switch their career up which means getting a new job etc and that make take time so now some are losing their homes but too avoid evrything NBA lockout should be over.

2: This Revolution Occur On Wall Street. In this revolution people are protesting for power for a new revolution and change things. but all is happing is people fighting and hurting each other . People are also losing their homes and families. I dont think it is right that they are getting hurt or fighting like this. I learned that revolutions like this need to make a change and stop hurting each other.

  11. Sharese Zanders 3B http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF4lPWU_qxY This website is on the french revolution

What I learned on the french revolution is Louis xlv became the major european power in the 18th century. In 1789 economic depression cripples in France, causing the people to rebel against Louis. Louis was forced to abdicate and was arrested and killed on January 21, 1793... and his wife Marie Antoinette was killed october 16.

2.I chose this revolution because it was interesting to me.It started in January 25,2011 and it's still going on right now in November.I believe this revolution was caused because of legal and political issues.the most interesting thing i read was that the Egyptian police used water cannons against Nobel laureate and pro-democracy.i think the most horrible thing about the revolutions are that in a revolution it does not matter if it is a women or children in the way they would kill them if it's necessary.in the video i saw that men, children's and women's were kill and everybody was jumping in top of each other.I did some research in the Egyptian revolution and it said that the government blocked the Internet and mobile phone communication, but news of arrests and police repression still circulated online. According to Human Rights Watch, police violence against protesters (especially tear gas canisters and rubber bullets fired at people's heads) led to the deaths of at least 300 people.I think the police it's getting out of control when it comes to revolutions, i know people can be irritating but that does not the give the right for them to spray tear gas or hit the protesters.I learned from the video that revolutions aren't safe and that police it's taking no control, they can go overboard.

This is the Wall Street Protest .

The revolution I chose was the Wall Street Protest . The people are upset because the govern ment is'nt being fair with the money . The protestors want the government to look out for their economic well-being just as they would for the very wealthy . I believe the government should help the less wealthy people than the very wealthy people brcause their the ones who need it . Since the Wall Street Protest protestors have helped block new debit card fees and also helped homeowners win easier terms on mortgage debt and college grads on student debt .

The revolution I chose was the Occupy Wall Street. In this video people are speaking on the governments behalf. The government takes money and spend money on things like guns and expect us to pay for rent, gas, food.
