Greetings, Young Scholars!
This week you'll explore a free online resource for learning vocabulary, which is called Vocab Ahead. Every week you'll be responsible for learning 10-20 vocabulary words. You will primarily study these on your own at home and have a short quiz at the beginning of every week. You can find the first 15 words by scrolling to the the bottom of this blog - I've embedded these words here for you to look at just in case you have trouble getting into your Vocab Ahead accounts.

Here's what you need to do get access to the first list of words for the year:
Step 1: Go to the site listed above. Just click on the link!
Step 2: Enter the STUDY ROOM. You'll see the link here on the ribbon at the top of the screen. Second from the left.
Step 3: Click on the REGISTER tab in the top right. Follow directions to register. It's free! Don't worry!
Step 4: Login using your user name and password.
Step 5: Go to the SHARED LISTS tab on the top right of the screen in the study room and scroll down until you see "sabath sept 5-11"
Step 6: Click on this list and then click on GET THE LIST. This will enable you to copy this list to your account.
Step 7: Go to the VIDEOS tab in your study room account and click on the drop-down arrow. Now you should see the "Sabath sept 5-11" list. Here you can watch the videos for these 15 vocab words, which you'll be quizzed on at the beginning of next week.
Step 8: You can now study these words by watching the videos for each word, as well as quizzing yourself and creating study flashcards! Isn't this fun?
Step 9: Create a list of these words in the appropraite section of your porfolio for vocabulary building (i.e. your Reader/Writer Notebook in the Writing section). I will check this next week, so get it done! Make sure you write down each word, definition, and an original example sentence.
We will walk through these steps in class, so don't worry. Once you've completed the nine steps above, please respond to these questions in the comments section of the Blog:
1. What do you think about the Vocab Ahead website? Will these videos and this system help you improve your vocabulary? Why/why not? Will you still use a dictionary to study words in the more traditional way?
2. Tell me which vocabulary video you liked best and why. Use the word from this video in a creative, original sentence related to your life and personality. Here's an example sentence: I like to accentuate the importance of education in the classroom because this is your passport to success in the future. And another: I love to hike the acclivity that is known as Crescent Rock on the Appalachian Trail in Harpers Ferry, WV.

1 - I think that this is a good processs because it describes different roles of the word, and also makes it simpiler to the reader to understand and memorize the word.
ReplyDelete2- The video dealing with the word abase. It tells the reader what its purpose in a sentence and also gives you a clarity of a word you can remember

ReplyDeleteMake sure that you look back at your task for the second question. For this question you need to write an example sentence using one of these words, such as "abase." Try using it in an original sentence like I did in my examples.
I think I will be a good process and procedure because most of the world is transforming to a technological world so most things today so I think it would be easier to use technology in the classroom because everyone is used to it anyway. Yes it will because I would feel more comfortable and I think it will be easier to understand. No I probably wont go back to the traditional way using the regular dictionary

ReplyDeleteNo I Would Not Go To The Traditional Way Because This Way Seems Much Better And Fun At The Same Time. Its More Easy For Everyone. The Video I Choose Thats The Best Is The 4th One, It Was More Easy To Understand.
1. I think the website is good for studying the sat. Yes the videos will help you know the words better.
ReplyDelete2.I chose the word accolades because its what I get. I got accolades when played football for Great Mills freshman team.
I personally like the word abrige because sometimes when my mother is talking to me I wish I can abridge the length of the conversation because they can go on forever.
ReplyDelete1~ I think that the website is a good idea and it's more helpful than just the going to a dictionary to find the words. I am a visual learner so I believe this would be a better, more exciting way to learn words.
ReplyDelete2~ I like the word Acrimonious because in a way it describes me. When I try to Abstain someone because they irritate me I tend to be Acrimonious with my words that I say towards them.

1. I think this website is very helpful and better than a dictionary. its short and simple.

ReplyDelete1. I Think the vocab website is a good way to study ONLINE.studying is much easier when you can do it from your computer because if anyone is like me, i stay on the computer all day. So it is way more convenient. i think this site will help expand my vocabulary because i am a visual learner. The pictures help me a lot. now that i have this my face will barely be in a dictionary. i never really like the whole dictionary thing anyway. i frequently use dictionary.com. so sense i am a visual learner this is the best for me.

The reason i said this is because the man used a lot of funny examples and in one of his examples he gave his own funny opinion.he said most of these people who claimed they were abducted are NUTS. ReplyDelete1. i think the vocadahead website is great for me to learn new words that i need to know in the future.i think the videos is a good edition to the site and i like them because they teach me what the word means visually.
2. i choose accentrate because i specify and highlight important things that are in my life.

ReplyDelete1. I like the video website. This is a good way to study interactively. I probably won't use the traditional dictionary, I prefer the visual interaction.
2. I like the video for the word abstain. I will abstain from playing my game during the week so I can focus on my school work.

2. The word i like is abound. I have an abound number of stuff i need to do this weeken.
1. I would rater use the the website than a dictionary it gives a logical reason to be on the computer and plus it gives a video with the word you dont get that in a dictionary.

Start studying the next set of words, which you'll find on Vocab Ahad and also at the bottom of this blog. Remember, the words change every week.
