This week you're going to write your third poem for your project, which will be a rough draft of a sonnet. Here's what you need to know about sonnets:
•What is a sonnet?

TASK: Write a sonnet about the subject of love. It needs to be 14 lines and should use the rhyme scheme above that we talked about in class. Use the poems we read in class as your models to follow when you write your own. Remember, this is a "write-like" poem, so you should try to write like the authors of the poems below. Your poem should pose a question/situation/problem, a turning point, and a resolution - just like the sonnets did that we read in class. Post your poem in the comment section below, and send to Mr. Sabath via email (peter.sabath@pgcps.org):

Sonnet 18
Shakespeare
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
Sonnet 30
Edna St. Vincent Millay
Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain;
Nor yet a floating spar to men that sink
And rise and sink and rise and sink again;
Love cannot fill the thickened lung with breath,
Nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone;
Yet many a man is making friends with death
Even as I speak, for lack of love alone.
It well may be that in a difficult hour,
Pinned down by pain and moaning for release,
Or nagged by want past resolution’s power,
I might be driven to sell your love for peace,
Or trade the memory of this night for food.
It well may be. But I do not think I would.

I know this girl named Simone, shes my night, and day, her love for me is over blown, the love I have for her is so crazy, its like a busy highway, I feen for her nice, sweet melodic tone the day she welcomes me home, with a long sweet touching song, est.9-10-11 was the best day ever when I smell her sweet scent I know that shes the love of my life, when I hear or see her name I yell and shout thats my wife, the more I see her, I can't live without her, when we touch I know its real when we kiss its my true deal but when I hold her nothing will ever compare because this love is so unconditional.

ReplyDeleteI love you for being you
Though at times you did me wrong,
I can tell your love is true
And our love will last long
I love you for the emotions
I never knew i had,
I love you for making me smile
Whenever i feel sad
I see you when i close my eyes
And i feel my heart beat fast,
Its like the best surprise
You're my first,and hopefully my last
I loved you once,I love you still
I always have, and always will
Darius Odom 2A If you were a booger I would pick you first, Even if I had to die of thirst This is the truth, I want to eat you up like a baby ruth If you were to turn into a pop tart, You would still be in my heart If you were a mouse, You would be welcomed in my house How long should I wait, To go on a date If I was in a race for you, I would come in first place What I do, Is all for you
ReplyDeleteIll treat you like my shoes,
ReplyDeleteIll show respect to you,
Ill keep you clean,
And make sure that your seen,
But if u cross the line,
You'll know from that time,
That you lost some respect,
And i can no longer accept,
It was fun while it lasted,
Now your in a casket,
But i leave no trace to me,
That a human eye can see,
I still kept you clean,
But your no longer seen,
We were just young teens,
And this all was a Dream,

ReplyDeleteSummer time is the best season
everything about it has great memories of you & i
my birthday being in the summer is another reason
your love is like me overdosing getting high.
The first time we meet i fell in the hall
you looked at me and laughed non-stop
then you said sorry from a phone call
when i heard you apology my heart droppedd
we were like two peas in a pot the best i ever had
but when you were with your friends i was dissed
how could you ever treat me so good then hurt me i was so sad
all i ever wanted was hugs and a kiss
you were my baby
and i was your lady.
