Speaking Out: Week 2/Unit 1 Period 3B

This week we'll start reading a series of three speeches. This week we'll focus on Sojourner Truth's "Ain't I a Woman" speech. Here's what you have to do for this week's blog response:

Think about an issue (problem) in your school, neighborhood, country, or world. Take a minute to jot down a problem that you'd like to speak about later in this unit, such as neighborhood rivalries, homelessness, racism, guns/violence, or teen pregnancy. These are just a few examples. Answer the questions that follow:

1. What is the problem you've identified?
2. Why is this a problem to your mind?
3. Why would you like to write a speech about this problem?
4. What are some solutions to the problem?
5. How would you persuade your classmates to changes their believes about this problem you've identified?

DUE: Friday, 9/2 @ midnight

Over and out,
Sabath

    1. The problem I have identified in my neighborhood is gang violence.

    2. This problem comes to my mind because my older sister was actually hurt by a gang because of where she was from.

    3. I would like to speech this problem because maybe my speech can make people change their lives if they were in gang and it can prevent other from joining them.

    4. Some solutions to this problem is making a law that if there is a gang in the U.S they will get fined or thrown into jail.

    5. I can persuade my classmate by bringing up my cousin Anthony and he can talk to the class because he was in a gang and he got out of it.

    1. A problem I have identified is that young people like to smoke.

    2. This is a problem because, smoking is dangerous because it can give you cancer and also give second hand smoke.

    3. I would like to write a speech about this problem in hopes of persuading students not to smoke.

    4. A solution would be to get cigerate companys to make it illegal for young people to smoke.

    5. If it was my classmate i would let them know the dangers of smoking and also let them know about the electric cigerate. The electric cigerate can very well help them stop.

1.)One of the problems i have seen in my neighborhood ... Is alot of young men hanging around Smoking , Not going to school , starting trouble .

2.)This problem came to mind because of , my older brother went to crossland last year & he hardly came to class ' & yes he did smoke & getting into trouble .

3.) To inform students that Hanging around & not begin productive with your spare time is a WASTE of time . education is not a game

4.) I believe that possiblity of having PEP rally , & police officers coming to school to speak on the issue & almost have a session like going on "Beyond scared straight "

5.)Well , i think alot of my classmates would argee on helping me STOP the problem & or ' if not i would ask them if ( HAD ) a younger sibling do you think they would really look up too . See is that your not in school & gettingg into fights & possibliy going to jail . #THINKKKabout that !

1.A problem I have identified in my neighborhood is that young people like to stay in the streets after dark smoking and whatever lord knows what more they do.
2.This problem came to mind because of some of my friends like to stay out at night.
3.I would like to write a speech about staying after dark in the streets, so people know what there children are doing after dark and to give an example to the other parents that have children and to tell the students that stay outside after dark is dangerous.
4.the solution I got for this problem is that parents should advise there children to do the right thing and to have more police patrol at night.
5.I think I lot my classmates would agree with my idea, because maybe the same thing is happening in there neighborhood. I believe my classmates know I am right because staying out after dark is very dangerous if your not with an adult, and plus smoking is really bad for your health.

1.ONE OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE IDENTIFIED IS GANGS.
MANY STATES IN THE UNITED STATES HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH GANGMEMBERS AND THE WAY THEY ARE DISTROYING PEOPLES PROPERTY AND HOME.
2.THIS PROBLEM CAME TO MY MIND BECAUSE IVE SEEN HOW GANGMEMBERS STEAL,DISTROY PEOPLRS HOMES AND HOW THEY KILL PEOPLE MAINLY GANGMEMBERS LIVE IN SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA.
3.I WOULD LIKE TI WRITE A SPEECH ABOUT GANGMEMBERS AND HOW THEY ARE DISTROYING PEOPLES ENVIRONMENT BY BRINGINQ ILLEGAL DRUGS.
4.THE SOLUTION I HAVE FOR THIS PROBLEM IS FOR THE POLICE TO BE MORE AWARE OF THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM AND TO LOCK UP THE GANGMEMBER FOR MORE TIME UNTIL THEY ACTUALLY CHANGE.
5.I THINK ALOT OF MY CLASSMATES WOULD AGREE WITH MY IDEA, BECAUSE THEY PROBABLY KNOW THAT MANY IMMIGRANTS WHO COME HERE ARE GANGMEMBER AND ALSO ARE DRUG DEALERS WHO BRING ILLEGAL DRUGS TO THE UNITED STATES.AND I ALSO THINK MY CLASSMATES WILL AGREE THAT THESE GANGMEMBERS ARE BAD INFLUENCE FOR YOUNGER PEOPLE THEY HANG OUT WITH.

    1. What is the problem you've identified?

I have identified racism as a problem that exists nationwide.

    2. Why is this a problem to your mind?

Racism is a problem that exist in my mind because I see it happening everyday with my
friends and I have been a victim of racism.

    3. Why would you like to write a speech about this problem?

I would like to write a speech about this problem to inform people that we are all created
the same. We just have different skin colors. God created all of us with certain qualities
that makes us unique. We should always treat each other with respect.

    4. What are some solutions to the problem?

Some solutions to racism is not to discriminate against people based on gender, race,
handicap and age. Also, we should not judge others and be open to everyone’s views.

    5. How would you persuade your classmates to change their beliefs about this problem
    you've identified?

I would encourage my classmates to listen to Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream
Speech” because it is one of the most motivational speeches in America’s history. It
inspires people to achieve their goals no matter what obstacles they may face.

  19. Jocelyn Iglesias - 3b 1. The problem I have identified is discrimination/racism. 2. This is a problem in my mind because many people get discriminated because of where they come from or how they talk and act. For example Hispanic people get discriminated a lot like when we go to school a lot of ignorant people make fun of us because they think we don't know English and that we're somehow stupid. 3. I would like to write a speech on this problem because I want people to get the gist of what I'm trying to do. And what I'm trying to do is get ignorant people educated on how hurtful and disrespectful it is to discriminate and be racist to Hispanics,Asians,Africans, etc. And to let them know that everyone is equal no matter what race or what language we speak because regardless if they don't want to realize it everyone has ancestors who probably never knew english and was never an American. 4. Some solutions to this problem would be to mix groups and have everyone associate with the people they discriminate and get to know their heritage and culture and make them realize that learning english or being a immigrant and not knowing English and being a different color doesn't Mae one stupid it just makes them unique. 5. I would persuade my classmates to change their beliefs having them communicate to the people they discriminate so they can get to know the person better and take back some words or thoughts and let them know that they were wrong on some things.

    3. I would like to write a speech abbout this because this is t6he main purpose for fights to occur.
    4. People need to mind their business an stop thinking about what others do or have on.

    5. When I read my speech and tell more details about this topic they should understand why people should not criticise people.

    1. A problem I have identified was neighborhood violence.

    2. This problem came to mind because people/kids are dying over neighborhood violence. They fight over useless things like who has this name brand clothing line, or who has these name brand shoes, and if you do have those name brand things, they get stolen off them by shooting them or fighting them.

    3. I would like to write a speech about this to see if my wise words would reach out to my peers and change their view of life.To let them know that the world isn't always about girls/boys,money,cars,clothes,and jewlery.

    4. Well the one solution that makes things easier on some kids is school uniforms. If it wasn't for school uniforms, kids would be getting hurt all the time.Another solution is communication.I think kids need to communicate more and stop using violence to answer everything.

    5. To pay attention to the loved ones that they and their families has lost over this problem. Many famalies have lost young, inocent, loving and caring lives to this type of violence and neighborhood violence.

    3. I would like to write a speech on this because i want to change the minds of teens that's having sex.

    4. Some solutions to this problem is condoms, birth control, parents talking to the children about sex early.

    5. I would persuade my classmates to change their believes about teenage pregnancy because they don't realize that they got it good right now, when you have a baby young your party life is over.
