Welcome back to Crossland, and welcome to our virtual classroom! This will be a place for you to contact me any time of the day, and a place where we can continue our classroom discussions outside of the classroom. If you have questions or concerns about an assignment, you can reach me here or via email. Every week I will post a blog related to something we're doing in the classroom. Once a week you will be required to respond to the question for a weekly Blog homework assignment.
Week one blog assignment: Tell me about one powerful experience you had over the summer. Using as much description as possible, tell me why this experience had such an impact on you. Did the experience help you grow as an individual? Was it positive or negative? In your response, after your FULL NAME (first and last, no nick names please!) please write the period/day you have me for English class (2A, 3A, 2B, or 3B)!
Again, welcome to a new school year! I look forward to working with you face-to-face in room 222, and I look forward to communicating here in our virtual classroom!

ReplyDeleteMy experience over the summer was.... I got to see my cousin wedding .... It was so wonderful and so much fun. This experience was positive because i got to see two family's come together as one big family.
A powerful experience I had over the summer was that I had a big argument with my father and since me and my father can't get along he told me that we can't live under the same roof, so then I told him that when I turn 18 and when I’m out of high school that I would move out and find my own place, so nobody can tell me what to do. And this argument thought me that life is not easy and is you want something you need to work hard to make it happen.
ReplyDeleteAnthony, glad you got to tavel a bit this summer! Try to write a bit more next time. Sorry it got deleted.
ReplyDeleteI'vahanna, had you got to go to a wedding. I love weddings because they do bring families together.
Anonymous #3 - I can't give you credit for this assignment if you don't tell me who you are! Sorry about the fallout you had with your father. I hope you can work everything out...
Thanks everyone who responded to this blog so far. This summer I had a good time with my mother-in-law from Hungary. My wife is Hungarian, as I mentioned to you all in class. Her mother was recently diagnosed with cancer, but this summer she was in good spirits, and healthy. She's really fighting off the illness, and it was very moving to spend part of the summer with her before my summer job started. We take our loved ones for granted at times. This experience taught me to spend more quality time with loved ones because we never know what might take them away from us.
I'll see you all in class!

ReplyDeleteOne powerful experience I had over the summer is when my grandmother (on my father side) took me, my sister, and my brother to the beach for a couple of days. This was a powerful experience because I don't get to see this side of my family often and when I do its not for that long. We ended up having a good time being together. So the experience actually made me realize how important being with your family is.

ReplyDeleteDesiree Wheeler 2a. This summer I went to Florida with my family, we spent quality time together that we don't usually don't get the chance to do. It had a positive affect on me because it showed me my family don't always have time but they still care
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the new comments! I'll respond to all of your shortly! See you in class!

Darius Odom 2A This summer I went to Alanta,Georgia with my family for my cousins wedding. We went to the place that they buried Martin Luther King Jr at. This experience helped me grow into a better indiviual because it really made me notice what the black people that came before us really had to deal with.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone who responded! Job well done for the first week's blog!

Rashad,
ReplyDeleteThe beach trips sound great. I agree, family is so very important. I’m glad you got to spend some quality time with your loved ones!
Yumari,
I’m sorry that you and your dad got into a little argument. These are part of family life, however. I remember when I was a boy I ran away from home once because I was so mad at my parents. I was just gone for a day at the top of the hill behind the school. I’m sure your dad loves you. Don’t worry – you’ll be going to college in no time and will be able to get some space. Until then, do your best to make it work. Good luck!
Aliah,
Why were you in school during the summer? What were you studying? How was Florida?
Destanie,
Wow – Chicago and Ocean City! When you write for the Blog, try to use proper grammar. Don’t capitalize every word – ony words that need to be capitalized! Thanks!
Desiree,
Glad you had some good times with your family in the Sunshine State!
Darius,
Wow, that must have been powerful to see where MLK is resting! Have you been to the memorial yet in DC? Yes, sometimes we forget what people fought for in the 50’s and 60’s to make the world a better place.
Daquan,
ReplyDeleteover the summer i went to my grandmothers funeral and it was very sad :-(

Well this summer i did something i wasn't sapose to do and i got caught. I was hopeing for them to forgive me but they wouldn't and i got into depression so my cousin took me to church and i realized that it doesn't matter if those people didn't forgive me because there was always going be a person to forgive all my sins and love me no matter what. This help me grow as an individual because i learned things happen for a reason. Tatiana M. Pd:1
