This week's HSA INDICATORS: November 28 - December 4: Do the online exercise for indicators 1.1.3 and 1.2.1. DUE BY SUNDAY MIDNIGHT, December 4.
DON'T FORGET TO SEND YOUR RESULTS TO ME VIA EMAIL WITH YOUR NAME AND CLASS PERIOD IN SUBJECT LINE, OR BRING A PRINT OUT OF YOUR RESULTS TO CLASS ON MONDAY/TUESDAY. DON'T FORGET TO RESPOND TO THE THREE BLOG QUESTIONS BELOW!!!
THIS QUARTER YOUR ONLINE HOMEWORK WILL COUNT AS A TEST GRADE RATHER THAN A HOMEWORK GRADE, SO IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU COMPLETE THESE EXERCISES ONLINE!
Online HSA Practice Schedule:
This week you'll CONTINUE your online HSA review course for the second quarter. The instructions for completing this are REPEATED below. They are the same steps from the first quarter. If you already know how to do this, you can ignore them! If you still need the instructions, follow the steps and you'll get your weekly homework credit. It's that simple! It will take you about fifteen minutes or so to complete each indicator.
For this homework assignment you'll get to practice answering HSA-style questions. The system will tell you what you get right and wrong, and you'll have a chance to correct yourself and learn from your mistakes. We'll go over all of this material in class, but this give you an opportunity to get more practice in at home!
Each week leading up to the Second Quarter HSA Benchmark in mid January (window is open from January 9-19, and you'll probably take your test on the 16th or 17th) you'll have to complete test questions for two separate indicators. The schedule is spelled out below. Additionally, your blog response for the next five weeks will be centered around your work on this HSA review website.
Here are the three questions you'll have to answer every week in the comments section of this blog:
1. What concepts/ideas did you learn about when you studied the two HSA indicators for this week's homework?
Example Response: This week I worked on questions that dealt with ___________________________ (indicators _______ and _________). In these questions I learned how to...
2. What was easy/difficult for you in these questions? How did you do on each indictor? Did you score over or under 50% (i.e. 5/10)? Be specific!
Example Response: I found these questions very easy because I am a strong reader. I was able to use the reading strategies I learned in ninth grade and the strategies we're working on with Mr. Sabath to answer all of these questions. Some of the passages were a bit long, but I know I have to get used to reading on these tests. The poetry was also a bit tricky, so I'd like to get more practice reading poetry in this class with you, Mr. Sabath! Despite this, I got 90% of all the questions right for each indicator, so I think I'm ready for these kind of questions. (Or, I got less than 50% right on these questions, so I need extra practice with these kinds of questions that will appear on the HSA).
3. What is your opinion of this online test prep site? Why do you like it? Why don't you like it? How have your thoughts changed over time? Be specific!
Example Reponse: I love this site because it gives me a chance to practice my test-taking strategies.

Step 1: Go to http://apps.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/hsaprep/
Step 2: Enter your email address and name. Use this every time because the system will keep track of your progress.
Step 3: Pull down the subject tab to English. Choose the“By Indicator” test type that you are working on for the week.
Step 4: For each indicator, print out your results and return this data to class to get your homework grade for each week. Optionally, you can copy and paste your results into an email and send them from your PGCPS Gmail account to peter.sabath@pgcps.org. IF YOU DO THIS, PLEASE LIST YOUR NAME AND CLASS PERIOD IN THE SUBJECT LINE (eg. 2A, 2B, 3A, or 3B). If you don’t have a printer, bring in a letter from a parent stating this and use the charts attached (or create your own charts) to keep track of the questions you get right and wrong.Write down the indicator at the top of each chart and for each question put a check (or X) in the correct column if you get it right or in the incorrect column if you get it wrong.

I learned how to focus more and pay attention to the text because there were questions with two possible answers but you had to interpret which one.
2. What was easy/difficult for you in these questions? How did you do on each indicator? Did you score over or under 50% (i.e. 5/10)? Be specific!
All the questions were easy for both indicators. I got an 6/8 for indicator 1.2.1 and a 10/10 for indicator 1.1.3.

FERNANDO MARTINEZ 3B.1.TO PAY ATTENTION ON THE NEXT QUESTION BECAUSE THERE 2 ANSWERS WERE THEIR BOTH CAN BE POSSIBLE.2 BOTH INDICATORS WERE KIND OF HARD.3.I THINK THIS WEBSITE IS VERY GOOD FOR YOUR HSA SO YOU WILL PRACTICE.

ReplyDelete1.I learned that you have to read the questions first and read the text, to find the correct answer.
2.Both the indicators was very challenging and difficult to do but I still scored good on both of them i got a 90% and 70% on my indicators. They helped me think real hard what i am going to put as my answer.
3.I think this website is very good because it is challenging our brains to think and work hard to get the right answer. This website is pushing us to do our best on the exams and to work on what we know we are weak on' so we can work harder to build ourselves in those categories. The website even give us vocabulary words at the bottom which are helpful to us and can help us on our exams.

ReplyDelete1)This week I worked on questions that dealt with summarizing, comparing, contrasting and also drawing conclusions. Indicators 1.1.3 and 1.2.1.
In these questions I learned how to concentrate in the topic/questions it's asking.
2) I found these questions a little challenging because I am not that good of a reader. In indicator 1.1.3 I got a score of 7/10 and for the indicator 1.2.1 I got a score of 6/10.
3) I have a lot of faith in this online test prep-site because maybe I would do better on the test that's coming up. i think I will improve more if I keep working hard and getting a lot of practice.

ReplyDelete1. What concepts/ideas did you learn about when you studied the two HSA indicators for this week’s homework? For November 28 – December 4, 2011 HSA indicator questions (1.1.3), taught me how to summarize and compare my readings to determine a conclusion. In HSA indicator questions (1.2.1), I learned how look at what contributed to plots and settings to determine the correct response.
2. What was easy/difficult for you in these questions? How did you do on each indicator? Did you score over or under 50% (i.e. 5/10)? Be specific. In the first set on indicators (1.2.1), I found them to be fairly easy because I remembered the skills I used from the first semester. However, question 9 did not show the poems and I had to pull the poems up on the internet to determine my response for the Mussels in April and Mamas Pie Poems. The second set of indicators (1.2.1) were challenging. Questions 2 and 4 challenged my thinking process. My second responses were correct. I had to think about the contributions to the plot and characters. I scored 100% on both indicators.
3. What is your opinion of this online test prep site? Why do you like it? Why don’t you like it? Be specific. I really like this online test prep site because it gives you a hint if you select the wrong answer and a second attempt to correct your response. I like the way it teaches me to remember what I have learned and apply it to my response.
